We start the day with a journey up the mountain to the Atherton Tablelands, stopping to enjoy the lookout and the scenic views of the Gillies Range.
Our first stop is the Curtain fig tree, a 500 year old. Learn about the fascinating life cycle of strangler fig trees and the unique ecological role they play in the rainforest ecosystem whilst you marvel at the sheer size and intricate architecture of the tree, with its sprawling roots cascading down like a curtain. Our local indigenous guide will provide us with a cultural walk around the tree, sharing dreamtime stories of the lands and showcasing some of the Rainforest tucker, medicines, and tools from the natural lifestyle and ancient culture.

Morning tea is served at the multi-award winning Lake Barrine Tea House, a charming 90-year-old tea house that takes in the serene lake views. Morning tea is a Devonshire Tea, locally grown tea and coffee, scones made to a fourth-generation secret recipe and topped with cream and jam produced in the neighbourhood as well.

Next we embark on a lovely short walk amongst the Wet Tropics World Heritage tropical rainforest. We follow the easy track to the boardwalk which leads us to a pair of towering bull kauri pine trees (Agathis microstaychia), also know as the 'lovers' and 'twin' trees! These incredible giants are an astonishing 45m tall and have a trunk girth of more than 6m, we take a moment to stand in awe of these ancient beings, believed to be more than 1000 years old.
A short drive away we arrive at Lake Eacham, another magnificent volcanic lake. Those whom wish to enjoy a hike through the UNESCO world heritage rainforest can do so, or you may choose to retreat to the grassy lookout or the bench seats surrounding the lake.

Lunch is delicious and is served with a view of the lake and the world heritage rainforest.
After lunch its time to jump into this tranquil blue lake. The lake was formed within a volcanic crater, e free time, glide along the smooth surface with a pool noodle & keep watch for curious turtles and schools of fish darting below.

Our last stop of the day is a wildlife river walk, we venture along a river path home to possums, tree kangaroos and platypus, at the end of the day, searching for a meal before they pack up camp for the night.

Late afternoon we head back down the mountain range to Cairns.
